83-й Венеційський міжнародний кінофестиваль проходить на Лідо з 2 до 12 вересня 2026 року. Venice Film Festival — the major film event of the period
The 83rd Venice International Film Festival is taking place on the Lido from 2 to 12 September 2026. One of the world’s oldest and most influential film festivals has already become a major focus of international film coverage in its opening days. The festival opened with Danny Boyle’s new film Ink, about Rupert Murdoch and his acquisition of the British tabloid The Sun in 1969.
One of the festival’s major events was the presentation of the honorary Golden Lion for lifetime achievement to George Clooney. His appearance in Venice attracted attention beyond the award itself: Clooney spoke about authoritarianism, political instability and the role of art in times of social and political upheaval.
Among the most talked-about premieres was Primetime, starring Robert Pattinson as television presenter Chris Hansen. The film received favourable reviews, while its premiere was followed by prolonged applause. Strong reactions also greeted Wild Horse Nine, directed by Martin McDonagh and starring Sam Rockwell and John Malkovich.
The festival continues until 12 September, with 21 films in the main competition competing for the Golden Lion. This year’s programme combines major directors, political themes and prominent acting performances, reinforcing Venice’s role as one of the first major festivals of the season where early contenders for the year’s most important film awards begin to emerge.
