У самому серці столиці, на Майдані Незалежності, відкрили відтворене мозаїчне панно «Боривітер» — одну з найвпізнаваніших робіт художниці Алли Горської, знакової постаті українського шістдесятництва. Мозаїка, що символізує прагнення до свободи, була створена в 1967 році у співпраці з групою художників-монументалістів для ресторану «Україна» в Маріуполі. У 2022-му панно зазнало суттєвих пошкоджень через бойові дії — і його подальша доля залишається невідомою. Відновлення твору стало справжнім викликом: 15 митців протягом півтора місяця працювали над точною реконструкцією площі 15 м², аби відтворити не лише форму, а й дух оригіналу. Алла Горська — була голосом епохи, коли свобода слова й мистецтва в Україні не толерувалися, але проростали всупереч заборонам. Її художня мова поєднувала модерністику з національною традицією, а життєва позиція — творчість із активною громадянською позицією. Загадкова й трагічна смерть художниці у 1970 році досі викликає дискусії серед істориків і правозахисників. Оновлену мозаїку можна оглянути до 26 червня за адресою: вул. Хрещатик, 20–22. Далі «Боривітер» вирушить у мистецьке турне Україною та за кордон — як культурний посланець і нагадування про силу мистецтва навіть у найтемніші часи.
Recreated mosaic of Alla Horska, destroyed in Mariupol, presented in Kyiv
In the very heart of Ukraine’s capital, on Independence Square (Maidan Nezalezhnosti), the restored mosaic panel Boryviter was unveiled — one of the most recognizable works by Alla Horska, a prominent figure of the Ukrainian Sixtiers movement. The mosaic, which symbolizes the human drive for freedom, was originally created in 1967 in collaboration with a team of monumental artists for the Ukraina restaurant in Mariupol. In 2022, the artwork sustained severe damage during the war, and its current fate remains unknown. Reconstructing the piece was a formidable task: over the course of a month and a half, 15 artists worked meticulously to recreate the 15-square-meter panel, aiming to revive not only its form but also the spirit of the original. Alla Horska was a voice of her time — an era when freedom of speech and artistic expression in Ukraine were suppressed, yet managed to endure and take root. Her artistic language fused modernist techniques with national traditions, while her life embodied a powerful blend of creativity and civic resistance. Her mysterious and tragic death in 1970 continues to spark debate among historians and human rights advocates. The reconstructed Boryviter is on display at 20–22 Khreshchatyk Street until June 26. After that, the piece will embark on an art tour across Ukraine and abroad — serving as a cultural envoy and a poignant reminder of the enduring power of art, even in the darkest of times.
