На завершення 26-го кінофестивалю «Єдиний світ» у Братиславі показали, як зазначають організатори, один із найсильніших документальних фільмів програми — «Мій дорогий Тео» української режисерки Аліси Коваленко. Міжнародний фестиваль документальних фільмів Jeden svet (Єдиний світ) — один із найвпливовіших документальних форумів Центральної Європи та флагманський проєкт правозахисної організації Človek v ohrození.
Фільм Аліси розповідає про лютий 2022 року. Відома своїми інтимними та чесними документальними роботами про війну й особисті історії, режисерка вирішує виконати обіцянку і в разі повномасштабного вторгнення добровільно вступає до української армії. Вона їде на фронт, залишаючи вдома свого п’ятирічного сина Тео. Стрічка поєднує сповідальність, рефлексію матері на війні та спостереження за тим, як змінюється її внутрішній світ.
У листопаді кінострічка вже отримала відзнаку — гарні новини надійшли з далекої Каліфорнії, невеликого містечка в долині, у горах на північ від Лос-Анджелеса, де відбувається щорічний кінофестиваль Ojai Film Festival. «З любов’ю з фронту» / My Dear Theo здобув цьогорічну Тематичну Премію Фестивалю — нагороду, яку присуджують роботам, що «найглибше втілюють керівний принцип фестивалю: збагачувати людський дух за допомогою кіно». Коментар режисерки у Facebook: «Читаючи неймовірно щемкий лист та стейтмент від фестивалю, думала і про те, що нещодавно писав Артем Чех, і про те, що писала Олександра Матвійчук... І те, і інше мені відгукується, хоча ніби й про протилежне, але водночас — про співіснуюче в нас. Як би там не було, це такі несподівані плюсики до хиткої віри, що наші історії з України (хоч ніби вже стільки разів розказані) можуть і далі бути важливими, торкатися, вражати, знаходити відгук, емпатію... навіть у далеких містечках серед гір у Каліфорнії.»
The One World film festival concluded with a screening of Ukrainian director Alisa Kovalenko’s film My Dear Theo.
At the closing of the 26th One World film festival in Bratislava, organizers screened what they described as one of the strongest documentaries of the program, My Dear Theo by Ukrainian director Alisa Kovalenko. The international documentary film festival Jeden svet (One World) is one of the most influential documentary forums in Central Europe and the flagship project of the human rights organization Človek v ohrození. Alisa’s film follows events from February 2022. Known for her intimate and honest documentaries about war and personal stories, the director decides to keep her promise and, in the event of a full-scale invasion, volunteers to join the Ukrainian army. She leaves for the front, leaving her five-year-old son Theo at home. The film combines personal confession, the reflections of a mother at war, and an exploration of how her inner world changes.
In November, the film received recognition. Good news arrived from distant California, from a small valley town in the mountains north of Los Angeles, where the annual Ojai Film Festival takes place. With Love from the Front / My Dear Theo won this year’s Theme Award, presented to works that “most deeply embody the festival’s guiding principle: enriching the human spirit through film.” Director’s comment on Facebook: “Reading the incredibly heartfelt letter and statement from the festival, I thought about what Artem Chekh recently wrote, and what Oleksandra Matviichuk wrote… Both resonate with me, though they seem to be about opposite things, yet they coexist within us. One way or another, these are unexpected little boosts to the fragile belief that our stories from Ukraine (though seemingly told so many times already) can still matter, still touch, impress, find resonance and empathy… even in small towns in the mountains of California.”
