Соцмережі, побудовані на емоційних реакціях, послаблюють здатність до глибокого мислення й посилюють поляризацію. Надмірна довіра до ШІ як до «всезнаючого порадника» може, за його словами, підривати аналітичне й творче мислення. Папа застеріг від поступового витіснення людської творчості машинами. Передача інтелектуальних функцій алгоритмам ризикує перетворити людину на пасивного споживача, а мистецтво — на набір даних для навчання систем. Він також звернув увагу на небезпеку «олюднення» ботів і віртуальних персонажів, які можуть впливати на емоції та сприйняття реальності, особливо серед молоді. Раніше Папа наклав вето на створення віртуального Папи за допомогою ШІ.
Pope Leo XIV Delivers Speech on AI and the Future of Humanity
The Vatican has released Pope Leo XIV’s message for the 60th World Communications Day, dedicated to the challenges of artificial intelligence. The Pontiff described the development of AI as an “anthropological challenge” and called for large-scale digital literacy to ensure that technological progress does not result in the loss of human identity. Leo XIV emphasized that civilization is grounded in living human relationships, not in algorithms. Social media platforms driven by emotional reactions, he noted, weaken the ability to think deeply and increase social polarization. Excessive trust in AI as an “all-knowing advisor” may, in his view, undermine analytical and creative thinking. The Pope warned against the gradual displacement of human creativity by machines. Delegating intellectual functions to algorithms risks turning people into passive consumers, while reducing art to mere training data for technological systems. He also highlighted the dangers of anthropomorphizing bots and virtual influencers, which can shape emotions and perceptions of reality, particularly among young people. Earlier, the Pope vetoed the creation of a virtual Pope generated by artificial intelligence.
