Швейцарський артист Nemo, переможець конкурсу «Євробачення» минулого року, заявив про намір повернути свій трофей на знак протесту проти рішення Європейської мовної спілки (EBU) дозволити Ізраїлю й надалі брати участь у конкурсі. У повідомленні в Instagram, оприлюдненому у вівторок, Nemo зазначив, що більше не вважає нагороду такою, «якій місце на його полиці». За його словами, збереження участі Ізраїлю, попри висновки незалежної міжнародної комісії ООН щодо можливих ознак геноциду, суперечить цінностям єдності, інклюзії та гідності, які декларує конкурс. Артист додав, що рішення EBU виглядає особливо проблематичним на тлі відмови низки країн від участі в конкурсі. У зв’язку з цим Nemo повідомив, що має намір надіслати трофей до штаб-квартири EBU в Женеві, закликавши організацію дотримуватися власних принципів. На тлі широкої міжнародної критики ізраїльської військової операції в секторі Газа заклики до виключення Ізраїлю з «Євробачення» посилилися. Іспанія, Ірландія, Нідерланди, Словенія та Ісландія раніше оголосили про вихід із 70-го конкурсу, який має відбутися у травні наступного року у Відні. У конкурсі «Євробачення-2025», що проходив у швейцарському Базелі, взяли участь близько 37 країн. Перемогу здобув австрійський співак JJ з піснею Wasted Love. Очікується, що у конкурсі у Відні візьмуть участь близько 35 країн.
Eurovision Winner Returns Trophy Over Israel’s Participation
Swiss artist Nemo, last year’s winner of the Eurovision Song Contest, has announced his intention to return his trophy in protest against the decision of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) to allow Israel to continue participating in the competition. In a statement posted on Instagram on Tuesday, Nemo said he no longer feels that the award is something that “belongs on his shelf.” According to the artist, maintaining Israel’s participation—despite the findings of an independent United Nations international commission pointing to possible indications of genocide—contradicts the values of unity, inclusion, and dignity for all that the contest claims to uphold. Nemo added that the EBU’s decision appears particularly problematic in light of several countries’ withdrawal from the competition. In this context, he said he intends to send the trophy back to the EBU headquarters in Geneva, calling on the organization to adhere to the principles it professes. Amid widespread international criticism of Israel’s military operation in the Gaza Strip, calls to exclude Israel from Eurovision have intensified. Spain, Ireland, the Netherlands, Slovenia, and Iceland previously announced their withdrawal from the 70th edition of the contest, scheduled to take place in Vienna next May. Approximately 37 countries participated in Eurovision 2025, held in Basel, Switzerland. The contest was won by Austrian singer JJ with the song Wasted Love. Around 35 countries are expected to take part in the edition planned in Vienna.
