Комітет ЮНЕСКО ухвалив рішення включити аматорське театральне мистецтво в Чехії до Списку нематеріальної культурної спадщини людства. Аматорське, або так зване ochotnické divadlo, безперервно існує в чеських землях понад двісті років і залишається активною частиною культурного життя донині. За офіційними даними, у Чехії діє понад 3500 аматорських театральних колективів, у яких задіяно близько 100 тисяч учасників. Вони працюють у всіх регіонах країни — від великих міст до малих громад, де театр часто є єдиною регулярною формою живої культури. Голова Аматорської театральної асоціації Якуб Піларж наголосив, що унікальною особливістю чеського аматорського театру є розгалужена система оглядів і фестивалів — як конкурсних, так і неконкурсних, — яка не має аналогів у світі. Кульмінацією аматорського театрального руху вважається міжнародний фестиваль Jiráskův Hronov, що має майже сторічну історію і є найстарішим фестивалем аматорського театру в Європі. У Національному інституті культури Чехії підкреслюють, що аматорський театр відіграє ключову роль у зміцненні спільнот, підтримці соціальних зв’язків і формуванні культурної ідентичності. Такі театральні колективи в багатьох містах і селах є центрами громадського життя, що поєднують творчість, участь і діалог між поколіннями. У 2026 році в Чехії планують реалізувати спеціальний проєкт Amatéři sobě, який передбачає фестивалі, святкування та заходи на підтримку аматорського театру. Внесення до списку ЮНЕСКО, на думку представників галузі, може підвищити міжнародний авторитет чеського аматорського театру та розширити його можливості для фінансування й розвитку. Наразі аматорське театральне мистецтво стало десятою чеською традицією у списку нематеріальної спадщини ЮНЕСКО — поряд із такими елементами, як Jízda králů, чеське лялькарство, модротиск, ворарство та виробництво різдвяних прикрас зі скляних перлин.
Czech Amateur Theatre Added to UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage List
UNESCO’s committee has decided to include amateur theatre in the Czech Republic on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Amateur theatre, known locally as ochotnické divadlo, has existed continuously in the Czech lands for more than two centuries and remains an active part of cultural life today. According to official data, there are more than 3,500 amateur theatre ensembles in the country, involving around 100,000 participants. They operate across all regions, from major cities to small communities, where theatre is often the only regular form of live culture. Jakub Pilař, head of the Amateur Theatre Association, stressed that a unique feature of Czech amateur theatre is its extensive network of reviews and festivals, both competitive and non-competitive, which has no real parallel elsewhere in the world. The pinnacle of the amateur theatre movement is the international festival Jiráskův Hronov, which has an almost century-long tradition and is considered the oldest amateur theatre festival in Europe. The National Institute for Culture of the Czech Republic underlines that amateur theatre plays a key role in strengthening communities, maintaining social ties and shaping cultural identity. In many towns and villages, such theatre groups function as centres of community life, bringing together creativity, participation and intergenerational dialogue. In 2026, the Czech Republic plans to launch a special project titled Amatéři sobě, which will include festivals, celebrations and events aimed at supporting amateur theatre. Representatives of the sector believe that inclusion on the UNESCO list will enhance the international standing of Czech amateur theatre and expand its opportunities for funding and development. With this inscription, amateur theatre has become the tenth Czech tradition recognised on UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list, alongside elements such as Jízda králů (the Ride of the Kings), Czech puppetry, blueprint printing, log rafting and the production of Christmas ornaments made from blown glass beads.
